"FOCUS" Newsletters
Liberal Democrat success in local government elections has been built upon “Focus” newsletters. House to house delivery of newsletters keeps us in touch with voters and shows that we are active year in, year out - not just at election times.
Joy Bratherton published the first “Focus” in Crewe in 1981, in the Delamere Ward of (the former) Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council. Regular delivery helped her win a seat in the ward in the following year. In subsequent years, editions of “Focus” were produced for neighbouring wards and helped the Liberal Democrat Council Group to grow. “Focus” delivery continues in the South Ward of Cheshire East Council.
In recent years, Crewe “Focus” newsletters have been printed on yellow paper. It gives the leaflets a distinctive appearance which residents recognise. People wanting to talk to their Liberal Democrat councillors have been known to waylay “Focus” deliverers on their rounds!
Expanding Our "FOCUS" Coverage
“Focus” leaflets cost money to publish and delivery is labour intensive - which is why other parties haven’t copied us to any great extent. To sustain and expand our “Focus” coverage we need to increase our income and recruit new volunteers to deliver the leaflets. The more members we have, the easier it is to finance “Focus”. But our delivery team is not restricted to Liberal Democrat members. If you are willing to help deliver but prefer not to become a member of the Party, please get in touch!
