A website to raise awareness about the elections to the brand-new Cheshire East and Cheshire West & Chester Councils on Thursday 1 May has been launched.

www.useyour3votes.org.uk is part of a campaign including radio commercials, and messages in newspapers, online and on bus shelters across Cheshire, supported by leaflets in all council facilities and a roadshow.

The web site will give the roadshow dates along with information about postal voting, electoral offices and maps showing the electoral wards. It will also link to details of the candidates.

The existing County Council and all six City/Borough Councils in Cheshire are to be abolished and replaced by two new Councils on 1st April 2009:

  • Cheshire East Council - to include the areas of the existing Congleton, Crewe & Nantwich and Macclesfield Borough Councils

  • Cheshire West and Chester Council - to include the areas of the existing Chester City, Ellesmere Port & Neston and Vale Royal Borough Councils

Both will be all-purpose (unitary) Councils which will take over all the functions and deliver all the services currently provided by the County and the six existing City/Borough Councils.
