Annual General Meeting
All members of the Local Party are notified of the Annual General Meeting in November. At this meeting officers present their reports and an Executive Committee is elected for the following year.
Special General Meetings
From time to time notice of a special meeting of the Local Party is sent to all members. Such a meeting is required to select the Liberal Democrat candidate for a Parliamentary election in the constituency. The parliamentary candidate must have the support of the majority of members attending the meeting, even if just one person has applied for the post. Ahead of the Parliamentary by-election in Crewe & Nantwich in 2008, Liberal Democrat Party Headquarters produced a shortlist of 2 from those who applied to contest the by-election. Local members then chose Elizabeth Shenton from Newcastle under Lyme in preference to Mia Jones from Chester.
The Executive Committee normally meets in alternate “odd numbered” months. Meetings are open to any member of the Local Party who wishes to attend.
